Marcus has developed considerable experience across the breadth of his specialist areas (please see the individual sections for details). This range includes trials before the Employment Tribunal and the High Court; appeals before the Employment Appeal Tribunal and the Higher Courts; as well as undertaking complex and long-running multi-party High Court litigation. Marcus has undertaken cases for a wide range of clients and he now has many repeat clients from a mixture of public and private organisations. Marcus seeks to provide a modern accessible service with emphasis on excellence and attention to detail. Marcus speaks fluent German.
In March 2008 Marcus was appointed to the Attorney General's C Panel, enabling him to accept instructions on behalf of the Government. He has also been instructed to advise and draft employment Bills for Private Members to introduce to Parliament. In 2004, he drafted the Gangmasters (Licensing) Bill for Jim Sheridan MP and in 2007 the Temporary and Agency Workers (Prevention from Less Favourable Treatment) Bill for Paul Farrelly MP. The former is now enacted as the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004.
Marcus graduated with first class honours in English Law with German Law from St. John's College, Oxford, with a year at the Universität Regensburg in Germany. In 2002, Marcus was called to the bar by Gray's Inn, where he is a Lord Justice Holker Scholar. Prior to joining Old Square Chambers, Marcus undertook significant advisory and advocacy work as a Citizens Advice Bureau Representative. He also completed placements at Slaughter & May Solicitors in London; Arent Fox, attorneys in Washington DC; and with the Amtsgericht Königstein in Germany. |
