Ben's main areas of practice are employment and discrimination, and environmental law. He has appeared in important, complex and class action claims in all areas of his practice. In particular, in employment law, Ben has particular expertise in the areas of equal pay, TUPE and discrimination law. Ben has also developed a significant practice in areas involving the “cross-over” between employment and personal injury law, in particular in relation to claims under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and stress at work claims. Ben’s environmental law practice has involved recent major “toxic tort” claims.
Ben undertakes a wide range of advisory work as well as his advocacy work, which involves regular appearances in employment tribunals, county courts and the High Court. His appellate work has included appearances in the Employment Appeal Tribunal, Court of Appeal and House of Lords. Ben also has wide experience of Coroners' inquests and appeared as junior counsel for the Prison Officers' Association in the Zahid Mubarek Inquiry (2004-6).
Ben regularly provides lectures, training and seminars in the areas in which he practices and has been recognised by both Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 as an 'up-and-coming junior' in environmental law.
In 2006, Ben was appointed to the Attorney General's C Panel.
Ben graduated from Birmingham University with first class honours in 1999 and was called to the bar in 2000 by Lincoln's Inn, where he was awarded a scholarship. |
