Alan practices almost exclusively in personal injury and clinical negligence litigation in the High Court and County Courts. The majority, but not all of his workload, concerns high value catastrophic brain and spinal cord injuries sustained in road traffic accidents or the workplace.
He acts for claimants and defendants in roughly equal proportions and is instructed by many of the major national specialist firms of solicitors and insurers. Alan also advises and represents clients in related areas of law, including health and safety proceedings in the criminal courts and inquests.
He is noted by his instructing solicitors and/or the legal directories for his expertise in handling large value claims in a practical and straightforward manner. He realises the importance of developing an early litigation strategy in any claim and the need to work closely with his instructing solicitor. He does not shy away from presenting a client's case robustly where required, having developed his advocacy skills at the Criminal Bar in his early years of practice. He has worked with most of the leading expert witnesses in the disciplines related to his practice area including neurology, neuropsychology, psychiatry, orthopaedic surgery, spinal surgery, care, occupational therapy, accommodation and information technology.
Alan is a regular speaker at personal injury lectures and seminars and is an active member of the Personal Injuries Bar Association. He has a keen interest in motor racing, motorcycles and France and can usually be found on the track or in France on his days off.
