Inquests & Public Inquiries

Jury and Coroner only Inquests are undertaken by a number of our barristers, at all levels of call. Old Square Chambers has been at the forefront of public inquiries concerned with major accidents or disasters, and those where civil liberties, industrial relations and human rights play a key role.

Barristers at all levels have acted for interested parties and core participants, including: victims, bereaved families, trade unions, health service clinicians, officials and patients; and public servants on a wide variety of issues. Particular expertise relates to: HM Prisons, railway accidents, construction, factory, fire service, and other employment accidents, and the NHS. Brian Cummins is currently instructed on the Infected Blood Inquiry, on behalf of over 1000 core participants, in first UK wide Inquiry concerning the largest scandal in the history of the NHS.

Michael Ford KC and Jonathan Clarke are co-authors of Redgrave, the leading textbook on Health and Safety law. Several members of chambers have contributed towards ‘Munkman’ a leading text on Employer’s Liability. Brian Cummins has been published in ‘Gatelodge’ the Prison Officers journal.
