Clerks

William Meade our Senior Clerk leads and manages the Clerking Team. William has been at Old Square since December 1993 and has been our Senior Clerk since March 2008. William has retained the model of team clerking which we had introduced back in 1994, which has proved to be a popular concept for other sets since, however he has restructured the team slightly which he hopes will improve the service we provide even further.

There are three other Team Leaders who each have responsibility for the daily clerking functions and practice development of their respective members. Teams range from between 14 and 21 barristers in number, which means that the Team Leaders are able to fully understand the work and clients of their members. They are proud of their reputation for matching the right barrister or team of barristers for the right case and their aim is to provide a service that is second to none.

The Team Leaders are each supported by their own Team Leaders' Assistants and two Junior Clerks as well as Liane Ractliffe in Bristol. The Clerking Team will be pleased to discuss all aspects of our members' practices, suitability and availability of counsel, their fees and any other aspect of Old Square Chambers life.

We strive to form strong working relationships and an understanding of our clients' needs which we feel we have achieved by obtaining feedback and tailoring our services accordingly. Furthermore we recognise that the approach of our clerking service has played a significant part in Chambers' continued growth and presence as a successful set in the market place. One such client recently made the following observation:

"Old Square Chambers has recognised that commercial clients expect more from their legal providers than legal advice. Cost effective, commercial solutions continue to be the focus for their clerking team coupled with a consistent and timely service. Their user friendly team is sensitive to the needs of our clients and our individual lawyers."

Furthermore, our clerks team are acknowledged in our two core areas of practice by the latest editions of Chambers and Partners and Legal 500:

The 'enthusiastic' clerking team, led by William Meade, is noted for its efforts to 'accommodate the needs of the solicitors', ensuring all are 'made to feel that their work is important.'  - Employment
"Friendly and Efficient Clerks" - Personal Injury

Brenda Brown, who has been at Old Square Chambers for over 30 years works alongside the Clerking Team in her role as Fees Administrator.

The Clerks can be contacted between 8.00am to 7.00 pm, Monday to Friday on either their direct lines or by dialling 020 7269 0300. In the event that you need to speak to a clerk outside of these hours please contact us on 07970 649755.
